100 Trees was successfully Monitored

In November 2023, My Birthday Tree Organization through My Birthday Tree Campaign Project  conducted a follow-up monitoring exercise for trees planted at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA)-Mazimbu campus  in 2021 as part of our ongoing commitment to ecosystem restoration and youth engagement in environmental stewardship.

This initiative,  involved collaboration with SUA students, staff, and local community members. The November monitoring event aimed to assess the survival rate, growth performance, and overall health of the planted trees.

During the visit, our team conducted a comprehensive evaluation, recording data on tree height, signs of pest or disease attack, watering consistency, and soil conditions. Encouragingly, the majority of the trees exhibited healthy growth, with over 80% survival rate reported—an indicator of successful students participation and proper aftercare.

This monitoring exercise also served as an opportunity to re-engage student volunteers and create awareness on climate action through tree planting, while identifying areas needing improvement, such as mulching, replanting in dry patches, and better protection measures for young trees.

As we continue to grow green spaces in educational institutions, we recognize the power of youth-led action in driving sustainability. SUA remains a key partner in our mission to restore degraded ecosystems and promote long-term environmental resilience.
